1868 - Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata starts a private trading firm

1874 - The Central India Spinning, Weaving and Manufacturing Company is set up

1902 - The Indian Hotels Company is incorporated

1903 - Taj Mahal Palace, India's first luxury hotel opened

1907 - The Tata Iron and Steel Company is established

1907 – First overseas office Tata Limited is opened at London

1910 - The Tata Hydro-Electric Power Supply Company is set up

1911 - The Indian Institute of Science is established in Bangalore

1912 – Tata Steel Jamshedpur plant started its operation

1912 – Tata steel introduces 8 hour working before such law was implemented

1917 – Tata oils mill company has been established to make personal care products

1917 - Andhra Valley Power Supply Company is established

1919 - Tata Power has been established

1919 – New India Assurance is setup

1932 – Tata airlines started, branded as Air India

1936 - Tata Institute of Social Sciences

1939 – Tata chemicals is established

1941 - India's first cancer hospital, the Tata Memorial is started

1945 – Tata Engineering and Locomotive works is established to manufacture trucks and buses

1945 – Tata Industries is started for Hi-tech Industries

1952 – After the request made by the then Prime Minister Jawarhalal Nehru to start cosmetics company, Tata starts Lakme

1953 – Indian Government nationalizes Air India

1954 – Voltas an Engineering, Marketing and Manufacturing organization established

1956 – New India Assurance is nationalized

1962 – Tata Finlay established, now it is called as Tata Tea

1962 – Tata Exports is established and now renamed as Tata International

1968 – Tata Consultancy Services is established

1970 - Tata McGraw-Hill Publishing Company is created to publish educational and technical books

1971 – Tata precision Industries is established in Singapore

1984 – Tata oil mills company is sold to Hindustan Unilever

1984 - Titan Industries, a joint venture between the Tata Group and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), is set up to manufacture watches

1995 -  JRD QV Award is instituted by Tata quality management services

1996 – Tata Teleservices is started to offer telecom services

1997 – Lakme sold to Hindustan Unilever

1998 -  Tata Indica is launched by Tata motors

2000 - The Tata Hydro-Electric Power Supply Company and Andhra Valley Power Supply Company are merged with Tata Power

2000 - Tata Tea (now known as Tata Global Beverages) acquires the Tetley group, UK

2001 – Tata AIG, enters Insurance market

2002 -  Tata Sons acquires a major stake in VSNL

2004 – Tata motors acquires Daewoo Motors, South korea

2005 – Tata steel acquires NatSteel

2005 – Tata Telecommunications acquires Tyco Global network, one of the world's largest providers of submarine cable bandwidth 

2005 - Taj group takes over management of The Pierre, NY 

2005 - Taj group acquires a hotel run by Starwood, Sydney (now Blue)

2005 - Tata Motors creates a new mini-truck segment in India with the launch of Tata Ace 

2005 - Trent acquires strategic interest in Landmark chain of bookstores 

2006 - Tata Sky satellite television service launched across the country 

2006 - Taj group acquires the Ritz-Carlton, Boston (now known as Taj Boston)

2006 - Infiniti Retail launches Croma, India's first national chain of multi brand outlets for consumer electronics and durable products 

2007 - Tata Steel acquires the Anglo-Dutch company Corus (now known as Tata Steel Europe), making it the world's fifth-largest steel producer 

2007 - TCS inaugurates TCS China — a joint venture with the Chinese government and other partners 

2007 - Computational Research Laboratories, develops Eka, one of the fastest supercomputers in the world & the fastest in Asia 

2007 - The Taj group acquires Campton Place Hotel in San Francisco (now known as Taj Campton Place) 

2007 - Tata Capital established as a new Tata company in the financial sector

2008 - Tata Motors unveils Tata Nano, the People’s Car, at the 9th Auto Expo in Delhi on January 10,

2008 - Tata Motors acquires the Jaguar and Land Rover brands from the Ford Motor Company 

2008 - Tata Chemicals acquires General Chemical Industrial Products Inc (now known as Tata Chemicals North America) 

2009 - Tata Motors announces commercial launch of the Tata Nano; delivers first Tata Nano in the country in Mumbai 

2009 - Tata Teleservices announces pan-India GSM service with NTT DOCOMO 

2009 - TRF acquires Dutch Lanka Trailer Manufacturers (DLT), Sri Lanka, a world-class trailer manufacturing company 

2009 - Jaguar Land Rover introduces its premium range of vehicles in India

2009 - Tata Chemicals launches Tata Swach — the world’s most cost-effective water purifier

2011 - Tata Chemicals rebrands its global subsidiaries in the UK, the US and Kenya under the Tata Chemicals corporate brand 

2011 - Tata Medical Center, a comprehensive cancer care and treatment facility established in Kolkata

2011 - The Tata Nano begins international journey in Sri Lanka and Nepal

2011 - Tata BP Solar becomes wholly owned Tata company (now known as Tata Power Solar Systems) 

2012 - Tata Global Beverages and Starbucks form joint venture to open Starbucks cafés across India. First outlet launched in October in Mumbai

2013 - Titan Industries is now Titan Company 

2013 - Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines to establish new airline in India
